Everyone would agree that all OnePlus smartphones are good devices with advanced functionality, great software, a good camera and a unique design of their own. Let's find out exactly what OnePlus 8T has to offer in this review!

Special features:

  • 6.55” 120Hz AMOLED display
  • 4500 mAh battery with fast charging support
  • Flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor with 5G support
  • 48MP 4x main camera

Scope of the delivery

The OnePlus 8T comes in a long, stylish and solid red box that's divided into two compartments and hides the following:

  • an envelope with instructions,
  • a letter from co-founder Pete Lau,
  • classic case,
  • stickers,
  • branded USB-C to USB-C cable,
  • USB-C power supply,
  • the smartphone.

Design

The OnePlus 8T smartphone is available in three colours:

  • black,
  • green.

The body of the smartphone is matt, made of glass and framed by metal. The colour is diverse, shimmering even if you just hold the phone in your hands and don't twist it. Not to mention when you look at the phone from different angles. A real magic glow.

The body of the phone is slim, the edges are curved, so the smartphone lies very comfortably in the hand. For not large hands owners this device will definitely be comfortable to use.

On one side there is a volume rocker, on the other side there is a power button and a sound switch.

On the bottom edge there are the speakers, the Type-C connector and the SIM card slot. The smartphone supports two SIM cards, but there is no space for a memory one. But it is not critical, because there is enough in-built memory.

The edges of the screen are also curved, it's a so-called waterfall screen. Right out of the box it is covered with a protective film, and this is its third safety advantage. Thank you, OnePlus.

Now let’s talk about the protective case. The beautiful shimmers underneath aren't lost, and the lettering adds a little more zest.

There are charging and speaker holes at the bottom, and the edges of the case grab the corners of the smartphone and fit tightly against it.

But the great thing about the case is that it doesn't thicken its construction or hide the beauty of the design.

Display

I would like to notice that, the display of the OnePlus 8T is the same as the Pro version. It's the same FullHD matrix with a 120Hz refresh rate, touchscreen sensitivity of 240Hz, and a maximum brightness of 1,100 cd/m².

The 6.55-inch display, in my opinion, has a very thin bezel. The display has a resolution of 2400x1080 pixels and a pixel density of 402 ppi.
According to OnePlus, the colour reproduction corresponds to full DCI-P3. It ensures intense, yet realistic hues. And its brightness is enough to use the phone outdoors on a sunny day.

The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

OnePlus has built the front camera into a hole in the upper left corner, where it stays unnoticeable at all.

In particular, when watching movies in 16:9 format, the camera is hidden by a black frame, because the format of the display is 20:9. In my opinion, this is an ideal solution.

Functionality

Inside the OnePlus 8T the real flagship hardware is hidden:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865,
  • 12GB of LPDDR4X standard RAM
  • 256GB of UFS 3.1 memory
  •

Needless to say, that all the programs on this smartphone are  “flying”, and the games are running at maximum graphics settings without a hint of even the slightest slowdown? And it's not even about the hardware, as this device has a much better cooling system than the OnePlus 8 Pro, which makes the smartphone cool down better and there is minimal trotting.

Operating System

The smartphone comes out of the box with Android 10 and Oxygen 10.5.6. There's not much different from the raw Android software of OnePlus, only the presence of a couple of native apps.

The setting menu is convenient and clear, so there will be no difficulties with it. But there is one tip for you - it's better to set up battery optimization for apps you plan to use frequently.

Programs open in the background don't affect the system in any way, but after two hours the system will automatically close anything that it thinks is inactive.

Camera

The triple main camera is on the back of the smartphone. It is protected against damage by the edges of the case. The camera consists of the following lenses:

  • The main quad-module 48MP from Sony
  • Wide-angle 16 MP lens with  116º viewing angle
  • 2 megapixel macro camera

We took photos in different modes to see how the cameras shoot. We didn't set any special settings, we tried to bring the test closer to reality - when you just take the phone, turn on the camera and click the shutter button. The main module first shoots at 12MP, while 48MP is the mode that is set up in the camera menu.

Night mode shooting also surprises. The photos are not bad even without the activated night mode, but still better with it. The clarity is higher, there are no dark spots and the sky is brighter, objects and their individual details can be seen better.

In portrait mode, the image clarity remains the same, blurring works well and is almost always correct.

The 16 megapixel front camera is on the left-hand side in the corner. It does not bother when operate the smartphone, it is hidden in the notification line.

The resolution of the front camera is enough to take high quality photos in good light.

Sound

The transmission quality of the speech is good. The volume range of the loudspeaker is sufficient.
All of the above is also true in hands-free mode.

Communication standard

LTE communication quality is good: even indoors in dense urban areas, the signal strength never drops below three out of five.

The OnePlus 8T has a maximum 4G data reception speed of 2 Gbps and a maximum data transmission speed of 200 Mbps. The radio module supports multiple bands, so the smartphone will be able to connect to networks in different countries.

The model also supports Wi-Fi 6.

Battery

Perhaps the biggest innovation in the OnePlus 8T is the Warp Charge 65 fast charging technology. At a maximum power of 65W (10V/6.5A), the battery (or rather the batteries, to reduce the heat during such fast charging, the battery is split into two compartments) recharges fully in just under 40 minutes, and 35% in 10 minutes. And that's with its not insignificant capacity of 4,500mAh!

The capacity is enough for around 5-7 hours of screen time, i.e. for quite an active screen time. Most likely, there will be a little left over for the next day. The habit of charging the smartphone at night has long lost its relevance, but for fans of this method there is a function Optimized Charging, which will save battery life by turning off the power when reaching 80% and replenishing the charge to 100% in a few minutes before waking up.

To sum up

As you can see, the OnePlus 8T is a cool and modern flagship for a reasonable price! Its hardware, design, functionality, battery capacity, photo/video potential and colour reproduction will still be relevant for a long time. So by buying a smartphone like this, you can be certain that you are investing your money in good telecom future!
